Tabnine
Tabnine: private AI coding for engineering teams
Tabnine combines code completions, IDE chat and coding agents with private deployment and organisation controls. Now part of Tricentis, its current commercial access is handled through the new owner; the legacy free extension no longer accepts new users.

Code assistance with a focus on company context and control
Tabnine brings AI assistance into existing development environments rather than requiring every developer to move to a new editor. Code completions support work in the file, while IDE chat can explain a selected block, suggest tests or discuss a change. Explicit code references and reusable commands help connect a question to the relevant part of the project. That makes the product especially relevant to teams with established repositories and editor preferences.
The broader agent experience can act on development tasks instead of only answering questions. Tabnine separates these actions from its upgraded Chat mode, which uses read-only tools and excludes MCP connections. In the terminal, its Plugin for OpenCode adds Tabnine authentication, served models and organisation policies to the underlying agent. Administrators can control model access, coding guidance and the tools an agent may use. These controls are part of the deployment, rather than a promise that every change will always require a manual prompt.
Private deployment and organisation context distinguish Tabnine from a typical individual coding subscription. Tricentis acquired the company in July 2026 and described its Context Engine as a connection between code and wider engineering information. Existing documentation and enterprise integrations remain relevant, but the old pricing route now leads to the new owner. The legacy extension and CLI also have specific access and maintenance limits, so current commercial terms and the supported agent route matter more than historical plan prices.
Best for
- Engineering organisations needing private deployment
- Teams using shared code context and administrative policies
- Existing Tabnine customers managing the CLI transition
Limitations
Current pricing and new-customer terms come through Tricentis. The legacy free extension does not onboard new users; the legacy CLI is deprecated after 31 December 2026. Private deployment and third-party model access have different requirements and data terms. Generated code still needs review.

Is Tabnine still free?
The legacy VS Code extension no longer onboards new users. Its marketplace Free label describes the extension download and does not establish free access to the current service. Current commercial access should be confirmed with Tricentis.
Who owns Tabnine?
Tricentis announced its acquisition of Tabnine on 30 July 2026. Tabnine’s former pricing route now redirects to Tricentis, while its documentation and existing-customer links remain available.
Can Tabnine be privately deployed?
Tabnine documents private installation and enterprise authentication options. Deployment requirements, supported models and commercial terms depend on the organisation’s arrangement.
What is replacing the legacy Tabnine CLI?
The documentation directs users to the Tabnine Plugin for OpenCode. The legacy CLI receives only critical updates through 31 December 2026 and is deprecated afterwards. The new plugin requires Tabnine Agents to be enabled for the team.
