AI assistance inside a collaborative design system
Figma’s strength is an editable design file: layouts, components, styles and variables remain available for continued design work. The Design agent can use selected canvas elements and referenced libraries to make changes. Attach context or ask for revisions, then inspect the edited layers and undo changes when needed.
The Design agent is currently a free beta that does not consume AI credits. Chat is available across plans, but editing a design requires a Full seat and edit access to the file. Agent support for direct asset export and some prototyping actions is not yet available; ordinary design exports and prototyping tools remain separate.
Figma Make is a different creation surface for interactive prototypes and web experiences. FigJam has its own diagramming and summarization tools, while vectorization turns supported static images into editable vector layers on eligible paid plans. A generated application in Make is not the same deliverable as editable layers in Figma Design.
Design exports include PNG, JPG, SVG and PDF. SVG text is outlined by default, with an option to preserve it as text. PDF exports convert text into glyphs rather than editable text objects. Collaboration also affects AI conversations: newer Design-agent chats are visible by default to people with Full seats and edit access to that file; older chats retain their earlier sharing behaviour.
Best for
- Designers creating interfaces and reusable components
- Product teams collaborating on design files
- Teams moving from concepts to prototypes and developer handoff
Limitations
Design-agent editing needs a Full seat and file edit access. The agent is a beta with some actions still unavailable. SVG and PDF exports have different text-editability limits, and newer agent conversations can be shared with eligible file editors.

Is the Figma Design agent free?
The current Design agent beta is free and does not consume AI credits. Editing still requires a Full seat and edit access to the design file.
What is the difference between Figma Design and Figma Make?
Figma Design works with editable design layers and components. Figma Make creates interactive prototypes and web experiences; it is a separate surface and output type.
Can Figma export editable text?
SVG text is outlined by default, but you can disable that option to preserve text. PDF exports convert text into glyphs rather than editable text objects.
Can a team share its included AI credits?
Included seat credits are assigned to each user and cannot be shared. A separate paid AI-credit subscription can provide a shared team or organization pool.
