An IDE with a shared home for coding agents
Devin Desktop brings an editor and agent manager into the same application. The Agent Command Center shows local and cloud sessions in a board grouped by status, while Spaces keep the sessions, files, pull requests and context for a project together. A developer can follow work in progress, open a result for review and return to the editor for manual changes. The command centre is documented as part of Desktop 2.0, alongside the established IDE features.
Devin Local is the primary local agent and shares its harness with Devin CLI. It works with the files and tools on the development machine, supports Normal, Ask and Plan modes, and can use separate Git worktrees for changes. Skills and project rules provide reusable instructions. Optional subagents split work into separate conversations, and Quick Review supplies feedback on a diff. It has different permissions and some different capabilities from Cascade: persistent memories, legacy workflows, App Deploys and Arena Mode are not currently supported by Devin Local. A migration wizard converts relevant memories and workflows into skills.
The Windsurf rename arrived on 2 June 2026, preserving existing plans and the underlying editor. The migration offers to copy settings, keybindings, extensions and workspace state into the new Devin paths, while regenerated caches and Local History are skipped. Legacy enterprise arrangements can retain different billing from newer unified plans. Compatible ACP agents can also run inside Desktop, with their own account and service requirements. Local execution does not imply local model inference, and a hosted cloud session has a different execution environment from a local editor task.
Best for
- Developers wanting a full editor with multiple coding agents
- Teams coordinating local sessions and cloud tasks
- Windsurf users moving to Devin Local and agent Spaces
Limitations
Free agent capacity is limited, and SWE-2 free access is a temporary promotion. Teams has both a base fee and full-seat charges. Devin Local does not support every legacy Cascade feature. Sandbox protection depends on settings and organisation policy; local agents still use remote model services. Legacy enterprise and third-party agent billing can differ.
