What is Adobe Firefly?
Adobe Firefly is a creative AI app for generating images and developing them into finished visual assets. A text prompt can produce a starting image; references can guide its style or composition. The image editor then gives you ways to alter a scene, remove a distraction or extend a background without rebuilding the whole image.
The wider app combines image work with video, audio and vector generation. Firefly Boards provides a canvas for collecting and developing visual concepts, from moodboards to storyboards. Adobe’s own models sit alongside partner models, making Firefly relevant to creators who want several generation options in one place.
For people already using Adobe products, the appeal is the connection between creation and editing. Pro and higher individual Firefly plans include Adobe Express Premium and Photoshop on the web and mobile. The model choice still matters: Adobe’s descriptions of its own training data and commercial use should be distinguished from the conditions of a partner model.
Best for
- Designers creating campaign imagery and refining it with generative edits.
- Marketers developing moodboards, storyboards and visual concepts.
- Adobe users who want image creation and connected editing tools.
Limitations
The free tier has daily limits and a smaller model selection. Premium operations and partner models can consume credits. Unlimited offers apply to selected plans, models and resolutions for a specified period. Firefly Video’s five-second generation limit is separate from the editor’s timeline and 4K export options.
Adobe Firefly features
Text-to-image generation
Describe an image in words, then refine its style, lighting and composition. Uploaded images and sketches can provide a visual direction alongside the prompt.
Prompt-based image editing
Use written instructions to change an existing image. The editor supports object removal, background replacement, Generative Fill and other targeted changes.
Style references
Generative Match draws on a reference image’s visual treatment. This provides a way to carry an aesthetic across related assets without writing every style detail into each prompt.
Expansion and upscaling
Extend an image to another composition or format with generative expansion. Upscaling offers 2× and 4× enlargement; available generation sizes depend on the model.
Firefly Boards
Collect images and develop visual ideas on a moodboard canvas. Boards is useful for exploring a campaign direction before selecting individual assets to finish.
Adobe and partner models
Choose between Firefly and partner models within the app. The selected model affects the available controls, credit consumption and applicable product conditions.
Video generation and editing
Create short clips from prompts or image keyframes, then bring them into the browser-based video editor. Firefly Video offers five-second clips and camera-motion references. The editor can add styled captions and export MP4 at up to 4K.

Is Adobe Firefly free?
An Adobe account includes limited daily generations on selected models. The available amount, features and models can change. Paid subscriptions expand access and provide generative credits for premium features.
Does a Firefly plan include Photoshop?
The current individual Pro, Pro Plus and Premium plans include Photoshop on the web and mobile, alongside Adobe Express Premium. This does not describe a full Photoshop desktop subscription.
Do Firefly models and partner models have the same commercial terms?
No. Adobe describes its own Firefly models as trained on licensed and public-domain material. Its documentation says users must determine whether partner-model content is appropriate for their project; input rights and applicable terms also matter.
