What is Midjourney?
Midjourney is an AI image generator for turning written ideas and visual references into illustrations, concepts and other imagery. Its browser workspace brings the prompt bar, generated images and organisation tools together, so you can develop a series of ideas without managing each generation as a separate file.
Its appeal is the range of ways to direct an image. A Style Reference can carry a visual treatment into new work, while moodboards and Personalization profiles establish a broader aesthetic. The current default model is V8.2. Its Edit Model supports changes described in ordinary language and reference-based edits; older Omni and Character Reference features belong to earlier model versions.
Midjourney is a useful option when exploring a visual direction matters as much as the first output. It also provides variations, upscaling and image-to-video animation. Private client work needs more care: privacy depends on the subscription and where you generate, rather than being the default for every account.

Limitations
Private generation requires Pro or Mega with Stealth enabled. Public Discord posts remain visible. HD images are downscaled to SD by inpainting and outpainting; upscaling can restore the output size.

Start with a written description or add images as references. The Create page keeps generated results together, with options to reuse an image in a new prompt.
Style References
Carry colours, lighting, textures and artistic treatment from a reference into a new image. This guides the aesthetic rather than copying the people or objects in the original.
Personalization and moodboards
Use aesthetic profiles and moodboards to guide later generations. These give repeated projects a visual starting point instead of relying on a new prompt to establish the whole style each time.
V8.2 image editing
Describe changes in plain language and supply reference images through the Edit Model. The Editor brings region changes, canvas expansion and zooming out into one place.
HD generation and upscaling
V8.1 and V8.2 support 2048px HD output. HD generation has different GPU costs and aspect-ratio limits; regional edits and canvas expansion return HD images to SD.

Can Midjourney images be private?
Pro and Mega include Stealth, which controls visibility on the Midjourney website. Images generated in public Discord channels remain visible there. Use the web Create page, direct messages or a private server with Stealth for private generation.
What is the current Midjourney model?
The official version guide lists V8.2 as the default. It introduces the Edit Model in place of older Omni Reference, Character Reference and Retexture features. Model-specific capabilities should be distinguished from those of earlier versions.
Does Midjourney support commercial use?
The terms cover commercial use and impose a Pro or Mega requirement on companies with more than USD 1 million in annual gross revenue. Rights also depend on the applicable terms and on having rights to your inputs.
