AI service connected to a human support operation
Zendesk combines the infrastructure of a helpdesk with customer-facing AI agents. A service team can manage tickets, customer context, knowledge content and routing while AI agents handle configured requests. Support Team is the email-and-ticketing entry point, while Suite adds channels such as messaging and telephony. Higher plans and optional products extend reporting, workflow controls and assistance for human agents. The AI agent and the human-agent Copilot serve different roles.
Current AI agents can use a brand’s knowledge base and connected external content, clarify a request and follow service procedures across configured systems. Messaging, email and voice each require a separate channel-type agent. Escalation and fallback replies can give the customer a route to a person. Newly created agents use agentic AI by default, while older Advanced deployments retain separate documentation. Some setup recommendations and automated testing steps are rolling out between 30 September and 31 October 2026, so their availability can differ by account.
AI billing is separate from the human-agent subscription. In the resolution tiers introduced in May 2026, assisted escalations and conversations classed as contained but unverified do not use the resolution allowance. Verified resolutions pass Zendesk’s own LLM evaluation. This is the provider’s billing classification, rather than independent proof that every answer is correct. Accounts on the older resolution platform retain its rules until they migrate. The old per-seat allocations therefore cannot be assumed to describe a new tiered account.
Best for
- Teams unifying human support and AI service agents
- Businesses supporting customers across messaging, email and voice
- Service organisations needing knowledge, routing and governance
Limitations
Total cost includes seats, applicable AI resolution usage and optional add-ons. Current tier prices and allowances depend on the account. Each AI agent handles one channel type, and some setup features are still rolling out. Provider verification is not independent testing; legacy Advanced agents and resolution billing have separate rules.

What is the difference between Zendesk AI agents and Copilot?
AI agents interact with customers and handle configured service requests. Copilot assists human support agents with more proactive tools. Suite includes some AI tools, while the Copilot add-on and resolution usage have separate terms.
Does every Zendesk AI conversation count as a paid resolution?
Under the current tier system, assisted escalations and unverified contained conversations do not use the resolution allowance. Verified resolutions pass Zendesk’s LLM evaluation. Older accounts can remain on the previous platform until migration.
Can one Zendesk AI agent handle email and messaging?
Each AI agent handles one channel type. An account can create separate messaging, email and voice agents and activate them on the relevant channels.
Is Zendesk free?
Zendesk offers a 14-day Suite trial. Ongoing service uses paid agent subscriptions, with applicable resolution usage and optional add-ons billed separately. The trial is not a permanent free helpdesk plan.
